It’s a project we’ve been working on for a while now but we’re finally able to talk about our work on the amazing new Gangsta Granny Ride at Alton Towers.
Gangsta Granny, published by HarperCollins Children’s Books, tells the story of Ben who discovers that his Granny is secretly an international jewel thief. Written by David Williams, the series of books have been a huge hit and brilliant way to fire kids imagination as well as getting them reading.
The ride will sit within a new area of Alton Towers, called ‘The World of David Walliams’ and has been described by their team as follows:
“The thrilling new 4D ride experience will see guests join the main characters as they attempt the greatest heist in the history of the world: to steal the Crown Jewels.
On-board a Royal Carriage, guests will set off on a Crown Jewels tour only to be caught up in Ben and Granny’s audacious adventure. The ride will whizz, twist and spin passengers 360° through a series of scenes where they will see, feel, hear and even smell an electrifying and unique re-telling of the Gangsta Granny story.”
The ride is brought to life using Garmendale’s unique guided dark ride system and a host of state-of-the-art special effects, 3D projection-mapping and animation inspired by the artwork of Tony Ross. Guests will descend with Ben and Granny into the sewers, be chased through the streets of London and even come face to face with the Queen: but will the madcap scheme succeed?”
For us however, what makes the ride completely unique is the humour. There are thrills and laughs around every corner. We’ve seen many dark rides that thrill and scare, but few that carry so much fun throughout a ride.
We’ll share more about the ride and our own involvement as the story unfolds, but in the meantime, here’s our very own Kelvin Ensor talking about it on the TV.
